John Ling  1839 - 1898

John Ling was born in Bures in 1839.  His father was the farm bailiff at High Pole Farm, Bures.

John became a cellar man at the Black Bull in Holborn, London

John married Jessie Scowen in 1866 and they had a daughter Annie.    

In 1881 John was a publican in Alphamstone at the Windmill, living with Jessie and daughter Annie.

By 1891 he had moved to Bulmer as landlord at the old Bulmer Fox.

In 1898, ill health forced his retirement and he moved to Twinstead, opposite The Waggon. He died there.

The 1901 census shows his widow, Jessie, and daughter Annie living ‘on own means’ in Bulmer Tye.

Daughter, Annie, married Harry Dixey in 1903.

Jessie died in 1906. John is buried in Bulmer with Jessie.
