Sarah Bunn
1869 -
Sarah was the fifth child of Ann and James Bunn of Sandy Lane Bulmer. She was baptised on 22nd August 1869. Sarah’s father was an agricultural labourer who became a shepherd. They lived in Shepherd House, Sandy Lane.
In 1891, aged 22, Sarah was living with her parents and family which now included her widowed grandmother. Sarah was a corset maker or dress maker along with her sister, Emily.
After her mother’s death in 1896, Sarah continued to live with her brother Walter and sister Emily.
The 1911 census shows the three of them still living together in Armsey Cottage, Bulmer, with Walter as an agricultural labourer, presumably at Armsey Farm.
Sarah never married.
She died in 1940, having lived through the reigns of Queen Victoria, Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII and George VI.
Her gravestone here at St Andrew’s reads:
